What are Industrial Centrifugal Blowers?

Industrial centrifugal blowers are machines that are used to adjust the flow of gas for ventilation, exhaust, cooling and conveying purposes. They are either electro-mechanical or mechanical. They are most commonly driven by motors, but can also be run with the help of engines. Centrifugal blowers direct a heavy gas flow towards the required part of the building, with the help of inbuilt blades or impellers.

Direct drive blower: These are more cost effective, easier to put together, more efficient in their functioning, more consistent and require very little maintenance. With the help of a variable frequency drive, they can function just as flexibly as a belt drive, thus making them the blower of choice.

Type of Blades:

One can choose between a wide variety of blade alignments such as radial, air foil, forward curved and backward curved.

Radial blades: These integrate medium airflow and high pressure. In areas where there is high moisture content and dust in the air, centrifugal blowers with radial blades are the best.

Forward curve blades: These are more versatile as they can function in ventilating, exhaust and clean air environments.

Backward curve blades: They are highly efficient, require high power and high flow. When the flow rate surges, the power consumed becomes less, which is advantageous.

Air foil: Of all the blades, these fans are the most effective and work best in clean air environments.

Outside or Unclean Environment: Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) motors are best suited.
Clean environments: Backward curve, Air foil or forward curve blowers can be used.
Humid and wet surroundings: Stainless Steel blowers are preferred.
Inflammable environments: Non-sparking blowers fitted with an explosion-safe motor can be used.
High temperature: Belt drive blowers can withstand higher temperatures up to 250°F, beyond which a heat slinger needs to be incorporated.
