Brazed plate heat exchangers consist of a stack of corrugated metal plates brazed together to form alternating channels for the two fluid streams. The plates are typically made of stainless steel, copper, or nickel alloys. The brazing process creates a strong and leak-proof bond between the plates, ensuring reliable operation under high pressure and temperature conditions.

The plates in a brazed plate heat exchanger are typically corrugated to increase the surface area available for heat transfer. The corrugations create turbulence in the fluid flow, enhancing heat transfer efficiency. The fluid streams flow in opposite directions through the alternating channels between the plates, maximizing the temperature difference and improving heat transfer rates.

The brazing process involves heating the plates and a brazing material (usually copper or nickel) to a high temperature, causing the brazing material to melt and flow into the gaps between the plates. The molten brazing material solidifies to form a strong bond, permanently joining the plates together and creating a sealed unit.
